Key Benefits
High performance
Your application's appetite for data at ever-increasing rates can now be satisfied with
high performance RAID data transfer, capable of driving Ultra2 SCSI and Fibre Channel to
its bandwidth limits. Optimized for high performance, the K-series flexible architecture
combines 80 MBytes/sec Ultra2 SCSI (LVD) or optional 100 MBytes/sec Fibre Channel host
interface, with two or three Ultra2 SCSI device channels. A 200 MHz CPU with 64 Kbytes
unified cache and Chaparral's dual-PCI XOR SDRAM memory controller are incorporated in the
K-Series products. This technology is ideal for servers running I/O-intensive applications
as well as sequential volume streaming.
Ease of Integration
The new, compact 5.25-inch half-height canister packages the controller, NiMH cache
battery backup, integrated fan, LCD/LED/push button front panel, and Ultra2 SCSI
termination on-board for easy integration into a standard drive slot. These features
enable users to easily configure RAID storage in enclosures physically separated from the
server. No special backplane design is needed - simply install the unit into a standard
5.25-inch half height drive bay.
Advanced availability
Supporting RAID levels 0, 1, 3, 4, 5, 0+1 and JBOD, Chaparral's RAID technology ensures
high data reliability and performance. Additional features include: OCE (Online Capacity
Expansion), SCSI Reserve and Release for multi-initiator array access, spare pooling,
ECC-protected disk cache, and hot-swap replacement of disk drives and controllers.
The K-Series RAID Controllers' extensive feature set supports SAF-TE environmental
monitoring with even notification via e-mail, pager, fax or automatic calls. Also included
are event logging and SMART event monitoring.
Investment Protection
Each controller supports up to 15 disk drives per channel, for a total up to 45 devices in
flexible array configurations. Chaparral's architecture utilizes a common hardware
platform with a personality interface module for either Fibre Channel or SCSI.
Simple Management
The K5412 and K7413 array controllers feature an easy-to-read menu-driven LCD display of
array/drive status and statistics, and array configuration commands. LEDs indicate host
and device channel activity and controller status.
The K5412 and K7413 support remote array management and environmental monitoring through
LCD host (SCSI or Fibre Channel) port and serial port (RS-232) interfaces. Arrays can be
configured, monitored, and managed using Chaparral's Disk Array Administrator embedded
software. These features are accessible through an RS-232 port to a PC or VT100 terminal.
Support is also provided over the SCSI or Fibre Channel host channel for third-party
implementation of GUI utilities by applying Chaparral's Configuration Application
Programming Interface (CAPI) Developer's Kit.
